Every year, as the holidays near, we like to leave our readers with a little Christmas gift. In the past, we’ve put out a Christmas card and modified poem, as well as a special Christmas song from a local musician.
This year, we have a lot to be thankful for. During times where racism is running rampant, politics have somehow taken an even worse turn, and we’re basically living in the upside-down, Lawrence has delivered with a consistent set of live shows that have been the bright spots in a very bleak year… and we have a little bit of Black Girl Magic to thank for that. At the forefront of the scene, musicians like Alexa Sharpe (of Jade Archetype), Stitch81Classic, Mae C, and a host of others provided nonstop quality music and outstanding live shows. Their voices rang loud and clear as a bell (a slay bell, if you will) during the one of the most depressing years on record.
So we called upon Alex Williams (of UltraVivid), Cuee, and Khrystal to star in our 2017 I Heart Local Music Christmas Card. We’ve declared Black Girl Magic the winner of 2017 here in Lawrence, and these gals are never in short supply. Here they are, cracking some nuts (watch out!), with some fond holiday greetings of their own.
We present to you, the LFK local music 2017 Christmas Card (brought to you by I Heart Local Music and a little Black Girl Magic).
