Normally, at this time of year, Tricia Spencer and Howard Rains are hitting the road on a big tour (usually, someplace warm). But, like many musicians, the quarantine has left them at home and with a bit of time on their hands… which is why they’re the focus of this week’s Driveway Sessions.

Spencer and Rains are a beloved folk act out of Lawrence. You may have heard them at Lucia, or even busking on Mass Street. However, they are both accomplished multi-instrumentalists, placing in several categories in recent years at the Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Competition. The invited us over to their East Lawrence home this week, where we recorded them from a CDC-recommended distance.

The duo say they still play plenty of music around the house, and Rains has been keeping busy with his other gig. He’s an accomplished artist, and dedicates hours to his craft now that tours are on hold. You can check out more of his work here.
