2020 is the year musicians are bringing new and exciting themes to their music. Such was the case on Thursday night when three of the scene’s most unique acts took the Replay stage. Collidescope channelled the early days of Janelle Monae’s sci-fi obsessions with a manner of sound effects and all the trickery that came with Hadiza’s deliciously deep vocals. KD Kuro rounded out the night by blending his love of hip-hop and anime together in a perfect musical marriage. The Black Creatures, a big draw for the event, brought their unique approach to music front and center. The sharp-dressed and quick-witted duo are known for exploring unconventional themes in their lyrics, but on this night they really got in touch with their softer side and had the audience melting over some of their more romantic and touching numbers.
