Space Daze is the side project from Seapony’s Danny Rowland, a tremendous singer-songwriter that builds his LP Follow My Light Back Home on relaxing vibes and tender tunes. Space Daze has a strong pop presence and his eclectic music starts with the surf rock jangle of “Woke Up in the Summer” before turning one hundred eighty degrees on the the quiet “The Voices of Strangers.” This swinging back and forth continues, balancing the bouncy pop with emotional, fragile songs.

Follow My Light Back Home carries both sides with equal strength; “It’s Getting Lighter Earlier” has a great twangy guitar to compliment Rowland’s hush vocals. His whisper floats while he sings, “You cover me over like water.” Before the tide swallows us whole, he saves us.

The soft “I’ll Know Tomorrow” is arguably the most beautiful track on Follow My Light Back Home and the melancholic pop of “Kill Me” (“Will it kill me? Or make me stronger?”) gives Rowland the opportunity to display his catchy instrumentals. He really is a double threat; the songwriting and delivery give Space Daze their signature sound. The record has a great summer tone throughout (just in time for the changing seasons); the image left in your mind is dusk on a warm night. The dark backyard begins to fade from vision and like the title suggests, Rowland will bring us back home. In the distance, the light is shining.
