Note to anyone wanting to start a band out there: add a sax, because Lawrence loves a good sax man.

Lawrence got the saxiest of them all when Nik Parr stopped by the Replay on Friday night. It was the perfect trifecta for madness: it was Stop Day, Cinco de Mayo, and a Friday night. Throw in some questionable moon energy and you had a recipe for a feral crowd. So by the time Austin rockers Nik Parr and the Selfless Lovers fired up their set, the crowd was rabid. I mean, they even went nuts for the damn sound check.

Nik Parr put in his fair share of work for this rampant vibe. The man’s got energy for days. He plays sax and piano at the same time, and we’ve yet to see someone who can ravage those keys as fast as he can. Backed by an expert group of rockers, he was armed with the freedom to run around the venue while playing his sax, getting right up in everyone’s faces, and they ATE. IT. UP.

They were joined by LYXE who, despite playing about every three-to-four weeks, still manages to bring in a new crowd every time. They’re easily Lawrence’s most exciting band at the moment, and they prove it with every show. Punk rockers Jackoffs rounded out the night with that young, punk energy we so desperately crave. Equal parts doting on the audience and getting lost in their own thrashing, our favorite moments come when they are the most relatable in their lyrics. “This next song’s called ‘Landlord’ because I FUCKING HATE MY LANDLORD.” Bam. Instant applause and compatibility with the crowd.
