When I Heart Local Music launched, a garage rock resurgence was in full swing. Since then, we’ve been chasing that high of high-impact, high-throttle, and high-energy bands full of youthful optimism. We know it’s been difficult to find that vibe, but regional rockers Corners of the Sky have been answering the call.

The new self-titled album comes out the gate swinging with “Anti Gravity Cavity.” My God, we miss those rowdy garage rock shows at The Jackpot SO BAD and here is that same exciting feeling delivered in our lap. If you like Osees, you’ll absolutely love Corners of the Sky (those little “Whoop!”s on “Dead King’s Tale” are very reminiscent of John Dwyer). There are some instrumentals on the album (“Hitchhiker,” “Spider”), but it’s those furiously fast driving rhythms on tracks like “Desert Cactus” that make for those unforgettable thrashing psych-rock freakouts at their live shows. “All Knowing Frog” is for those of you looking to make the stank face during crunchy basslines. And the album ends absurdly with a ten-minute track of psychedelic noise (“Snake Queen”).

Corners of the Sky are the result of a robust garage rock scene leaving an impression in very young minds. Those minds then grow up to become projects like this one. They’re calling upon past influences while crafting something of their own. If you’ve never been to a Corners of the Sky show, man, that’s a shame. Because these guys are a RIOT.

They’re on a hefty tour this summer touting the new album. But be sure to get your butt to their shows soon (keep an eye on their Facebook page for more show announcements). You can listen to their new album over on their Bandcamp page.
