This weekend Lawrence will be a fountain of hard and heavy rock. We suggest you head to at least one of these shows for a swift kick in the pants.

Friday

Drakkar Sauna
Drakkar Sauna / Bloodbirds / Thrift Store 45s – The Replay

If you’d like to see what years of hard work and great musicianship in the Lawrence scene can produce, then look no further than the Replay on Friday evening. The early patio show will feature seasoned veterans Drakkar Sauna and their wacky folky tunes.

Bloodbirds
Bloodbirds is also an act not to miss on this night. The three-piece features members of Ad Astra Per Aspera and is backed by only the most raw and vicious sounding garage rock.

The early show starts at 6:00 p.m., and also features Thrift Store 45s.

Rooftop Vigilantes
Rooftop Vigilantes / Mouthbreathers / Dry Bonnet – The Taproom

Friday night also marks the triumphant return of everybody’s favorite next-door-rockers, Rooftop VIgilantes. The group has been incredibly hard at work pushing out songs for their upcoming album. We’re on the edge of our seats to hear all the new music.

Dry Bonnet
Not enough garage rock for you? Then enjoy the likes of Mouthbreathers and Dry Bonnet, who have a history of ripping your mind to shreds every time they plow through one of their unmistakably brutal (and awesome!) songs. Mouthbreathers is known to go at it super hard onstage. During one of the last times we saw them perform, the bass player started bleeding all over his guitar.

Come for the bloodlust. Stay for the savage rock.

Saturday

Dead Girls / They Stay Dead / The Sluts – The Jackpot

One would have to be an absolute fool to miss this show at the Jackpot on Saturday night. The event will feature heavy doses of headbanging rock, and you may even see a few horns thrown around.

Dead Girls consider themselves more on the poppy side; but let’s not kid ourselves, they’re pretty rockin’ onstage. Their live performance will hook you and make you shake your hips.

The Sluts
The Sluts are starting to become known as the band that makes immediate fans, even during a first-time viewing. It’s hard to believe all that raw and untamed rock comes out of just two people. It’s almost like you expect the curtain to be pulled behind them, revealing a full band. But it’s really just those two ferocious rockers making that intimidating sound. The Sluts are an “I Heart Local Music” favorite, and we will most certainly be in attendance.

Thanks for the weekend preview. It would be nice to see different bands and venues than the same ones that are featured all the time, though.

Definitely! We held off on doing these weekend previews over the last month while we were up to our eyeballs with festival coverage. We will definitely make an effort to broaden our coverage. Thank you for the suggestion, and please feel free to let us know your thoughts!

      We heart you,

    M,
Start a band, and start a venue and they will check it out I’m sure. This is a relatively small town…
