The future of the music scene is moving out of the basements and into venues.

DIY Promoter Slaughterhouse (not so) quietly launched a new monthly showcase on Thursday to put queer artists in the forefront. Slaughterhouse is the side gig of Itzel Sanchez, of Slaughtermouse (formerly Mickey Mouse Slaughterhouse), and she comes with a hefty load of experience in the DIY scene.

“No Man’s Land” is an early show that takes place every second Thursday at Lucia, featuring femme, nonbinary, and genderqueer centered live music. The series kicked off with sets from three different bands (and three different genres!). Solo folk punk outfit The Aviary kicked off the night, followed by alt metal band Bite!, with indie rocker darlings Kissin rounding out the evening. All three bands were treated to an enthusiastic fan base. We heard “Fuck ICE!” so many times that if it were a drinking game, we’d be dead. It was easy to see from this show that this is the future of the music scene, and the future is an independent and thriving group of creators who can land their show on any stage, no matter the venue.

You can see photos from the night below, and mark your calendars for the next round in June.
