Mardi Gras is always, in our opinion, the best (and loudest) day of the year for live music in Lawrence, Kansas. What started as a small community gathering more than a decade ago is now a large, thriving, katamari of sounds and colors exploding on Mass St. It’s when the entire community digs their most oddball instruments out of the closet and pairs it with a repurposed Halloween costume to join the official band as they lead a sidewalk parade throughout Downtown.

This year, the Mardi Gras parade jazzed it up a little by changing their course and adding some new songs to their repertoire. This time around, rather than ending at Free State, the band (lead by Dylan Bassett) doubled back and ended at Terrebonne (a more fitting location for the holiday).
