Slick beats and gorgeous harmonies are dripped all over the Groundwork EP, the latest from The Royal Chief. Opener “Fawkes Freestyle” gives a dripping metal clang to an echo underneath the vocals as if to emphasize the space his words are filling up. The backing chorus of voices give a majestic and beautiful aura.

The breakneck pace of “Keep That (Same Energy)” is the high octane jam needed this spring. A stellar guitar solo brings it home on “Wings.” References to Do The Right Thing, Patrick Mahomes, and Chance the Rapper cover both classic and contemporary, giving Groundwork something for everybody.
