The Granada got a little hot and heavy on Tuesday night.

Father John Misty returned to the Lawrence venue for a performance in front of a sold-out crowd. The audience eagerly squeezed in until there was barely any breathing room left. It got a little steamy onstage as well, as Joshua Tillman’s alter-ego put his showmanship to work while touting a new album. Under dramatic layers of lights (and, at times, darkness), his statuesque frame covered all aspects of the stage. When he wasn’t playing an instrument, he was scaling the drum set, flinging his mic stand around, or kneeling down to the audience for some intimate moments.

Father John Misty didn’t arrive in Lawrence empty-handed, bringing King Tuff (a Lawrence favorite) along for this tour. This is one of those rare shows where the audience was just as hot on the opener as they were the headliner. The psych-glam-hard-rocker has a nice history with the town, and hit up all the hot spots before and after the show. King Tuff was heavy on the fuzz and the fog, routinely using the mist to accentuate his already impressive and delightful stage presence.
