“It’s been awhile now, since you let me go/I wear a smile now, but I still feel so low” The Conquerors open their psych-pop single “I’m Alright” with just the right amount of jangle and sneer. This heartbreaker has the perfect amount of sorrow and roughness behind the vocals as they try to convince us that everything is ok. And that’s what we all want; to move right on past the sadness and troubles, but that’s easier said than done. The Conquerors convey all that in less than two and a half minutes. So the heartache still lingers and so does the song. But hey, we’re alright.

The slinking “Get Real!” has a speakeasy vibe as it creeps along. The rolling drums get you moving and the vocals bring a tear to your eye. Just bittersweet in the best possible way. These two singles from the KC band let their pop prowess come out and still bring some psychedelic vibes to lift out us out of the “cold, cold, cold” this winter.
