The local music scene will be rich with lively performances, popular local acts, and bands from across the globe. Here are some of the shows you can catch in Lawrence this weekend.

Friday

Chapter 24 / Long Shadows – The Replay

Chapter 24 is a fast, hard-hitting British group of musicians. The rockers sound very much like Talking Heads, and will be bringing their upbeat sound to the Replay on Friday night.

The band from London has been busy touring nonstop, and will stop in Lawrence before heading down to SXSW. They’ll be joined by local band Long Shadows.

Blind Pilot / Catalado – The Granada

Portland-based indie rockers Blind Pilot will be bringing their gorgeous tunes and emotional lyrics to the Granada on Saturday night.

The band is touring in support of sophomore album We Are The Tide. Expect a six-piece band featuring instruments like the dulcimer, banjo, and vibraphones. Go to this show if you enjoy peaceful music saturated with moments of zen. The band is used to playing in smaller communities and tinier stages, so seeing them make use of a large stage at the Granada will be a treat.

Don’t be surprised if you leave the show feeling warm and fantastic inside.

Stik Figa
Stik Figa / D/Will / Les Izmore / Motorboater / Atilla – The Jackpot

Local musician/promoter/everyting-in-between Marty Hillard (of Cowboy Indian Bear fame) is throwing himself a proper birthday party at the Jackpot on Saturday.

The event will feature some of the best rappers in the area, including the ever-charismatic Stik Figa, who will be celebrating his latest release “Choosy Moms Choose Stk” at the show.

Come for the massive amount of talent that will be representing, stay for the party shenanigans.

Dr. Octor
Magic City / Dr. Octor – The Replay

Dr. Octor comes to us from Wallace Cochran (of Drakkar Sauna), and features a zanier transformation of the Old West. Expect tunes that are heavy on the guitar and the occasional trumpet. Come for the toe-tappers, stay for the spacey jams.

Magic City, out of St. Louis, will be stopping at the Replay in the midst of a lengthy tour.

Those aren’t the only shows happening this weekend. Be sure to check out the full concert calendar here.
