If there’s one thing we know the Creepy Jingles do well, it’s writing catchy hooks. From the moment the first track on their latest album Washed Up (Enigmatic Brunch) fires up, we’re instantly bopping along. “All Because of You” has driving basslines and verses that we cannot WAIT to sing along to while driving in the car.

Jocelyn Nixon is an homage to all things vintage. Not only does she capture that perfect vintage rock sound, but she actually looks like she just stepped out of the era in head-to-toe vintage attire when she hits the stage. Talk about cool-girl aesthetic! We love vocals that are heavy on dreamy vibes and reverb, and “Go Tell the Others” does this well. There seems to be a very fun, unapologetic tone with a tinge of attitude throughout Washed Up that demands respect and longevity in the scene (don’t worry, The Creepy Jingles definitely know how to stake their claim here). The vocals get even dreamier on songs like “Look Behind You” where she stretches her falsetto muscles (the guitar solo on this one is to die for).

With Washed Up, The Creepy Jingles are ready to bare all and present their vulnerability, but still keep it rock and roll. It’s hard to find those good rock and roll bands when dream pop tends to rule the indie scene. But The Creepy Jingles do not bow to trends and keep it authentic. Standout track “Love Like You” is one of those songs that solidifies their stance here. Though we have to be honest, “Repeat After Me” will always remain our favorite track due to how hard it rolls at their live shows (you should see Nixon absolutely bang the shit out of the keyboard on this one, it’s SO rock and roll). Of all the songs on Washed Up, “Repeat After Me” is, in fact, the one we have on repeat.

The overall album gives the vibe of someone really standing up for themselves. Standing up to bullies. Standing up to injustice! And really, isn’t that exactly what we need right now?

You can listen to the album in person and see the band with their new lineup at their release show at the Replay on May 29 with Thimastr/ Teri Quinn & the Coyotes
