The Reverend Horton Heat’s Wednesday night show at the Bottleneck was a celebration of longevity. The band has been together for four decades, with 37 of those years supported by the relationship between Jim Heath and Jimbo Wallace. The night featured some popular favorites and deeper cuts from the popular band, and even some surfing bass for the sold-out audience. Jim spent just as much time storytelling as he did singing, bragging about their longevity to the fans. They’re no strangers to The Bottleneck, having played there for so long that Heath recalled when the green room didn’t have any graffiti. “Now it’s the most graffiti’d room I’ve seen in my whole life!” he proclaimed before reassuring fans “We ain’t dead yet. We’ve got a lot of eras left in us.”
Kansas City rockabilly and cowpunk favorite PopSkull Rebels opened the night, even showing up with a hot pink classic car outside to fully embrace the vibe of the evening. Editor’s note: please note that the fiddler’s shirt features a design from Evel Knievel’s costume, not a Confederate flag (we wouldn’t publish photos of that, ew).
