The Uptown might have been the most diverse room in Kansas City on Tuesday night. UB40 may be an English reggae band, but they attract fans from all over the world. The band’s lineup has represented a range of ethnicities over the years (with musicians sporting English, Welsh, Irish, Jamaican, Scottish, and Yemeni backgrounds), and they’ve truly found a place toeing the line between world music and pop music. We sat next to someone from Mauritius (look it up), and there were sooooo many Jamaicans in the house. Though they’ve had a bit of a rotating cast, and more recently performing with vocalist Matt Doyle, the band was celebrating their longevity with this tour as they entered their 45th as a musical group. Despite their fans getting a little up there in age, they barreled to the front  to dance the night away (security was asked to encourage the fans to stand and dance, despite it being a seated show), showing their decades-long dedication by singing along all the words.
