The Gaslight was the place to be on Saturday night. The weather was *chef’s kiss* and the smell of BBQ was heavy in the air as a number of musicians took to the outdoor mobile stage to raise funds for the Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championships. The longtime and well-loved event brings musicians from all across the state to Lawrence every August, and this event was one of the run-ups to the big day.
Old Sound started the night off, while family band The Lost Keys (who were crowned String Band of the Year at last year’s Fidpick) delighted the crowd. The third band was unable to play due to illness. So, with it being a crowd full of bluegrass musicians, a few players were plucked (pun intended) from the crowd to form a sort of Fidpick All-Stars as the final band of the night (a very “Avengers, Assemble!” moment for American music fans).
Photos below, then come back for the big day on Sunday, August 24, in South Park.
