I like a little glitter and glamour with my giddyup, which is why Cowtown Country Club seems to always hit the right notes with me.

Their honkey-tonk set at Lucia’s Sunday Roundup afternoon show was a good way to wind down a weekend full of St. Patrick’s Day highs and KU loss lows. The four-piece group normally stick to the Kansas City region, so their Lawrence sets are a special and rare treat.

Known for their Nash-Vegas style, as they call it, they debuted some new upcoming releases. But it’s their covers that fans are often drawn to. Their “Country Fried Covers,” where they put a country spin on songs that don’t normally fit that genre (like Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”), are an especially fun treat.

Here’s one of their regular covers that they’ve perfected, Willie Nelson’s “Sad Songs and Waltzes.” For a list of their upcoming shows, please visit their website.
