North Lawrence just lost a gem for the music scene. After Saturday night, Kaw Valley Public House is closed for good.

We briefly spoke with owner Jeff Groves Saturday afternoon and he confirmed the news. As of Saturday afternoon no public announcement had been posted. No word on if there will be a transfer of ownership, or what any future plans might entail.

I Heart Local Music would like to extend our condolences for anyone associated with the venue. It was a North Lawrence haven for local musicians, specifically bluegrass, folk, and roots musicians. The venue wowed people during the pandemic shutdown when they revealed recordings of their live performances and began streaming them to the public. In recent weeks, we saw good turnouts to support local musicians.

We’d like to personally thank Kaw Valley Public House and Groves for bringing joy and music to North Lawrence over the last five years. Every show was a triumph, and they were the first venue we got to visit to see live music after the pandemic shutdown lifted.

Thank you, KVPH.

You have one more chance to say goodbye: tonight (Saturday night) Lonnie Fisher and the Funeral will play starting at 8:00 p.m. Go show the venue some love.
