How did Cuee end up onstage in Lawrence with a contestant from RuPaul’s Drag Race? Haus of McCoy made that happen. Haus of McCoy is going to make a lot of great things happen.

Because Lawrence can’t go a couple of days without being fabulous, the community was treated to an incredible show on Tuesday evening. Abe and Jake’s hosted a fundraiser for Haus of McCoy, an upcoming home and resource center for queer youth in Lawrence. Local leader Cody Charles is the leader behind this QTPOC+ focused community center. Because this organization is such a big deal (and believe us, this is a big deal), they called in the big guns.

Silky Ganache, a contestant from RuPaul’s Drag Race, came into town for the fundraiser (and donated their tips to the cause). They were joined by other notable trans performers in Lawrence, including Cuee, Micha Anne (who is both an artist in the music and drag scenes), and Novacayne DeMornay. The event was free and all ages, but drew in an exciting crowd who got to rub elbows with some of the finest talent this region has to offer. All the performers took advantage of that magical staircase at Abe and Jake’s (Novacayne’s entrance gave major Frankie Avalon “Beauty School Dropout” vibes).

Haus of McCoy is going to be in indispensable resource to the Lawrence community. To get involved and financially support this institution (which aims to open by the Fall), please visit their website at https://hausofmccoy.org/.
