Less than a week after we named it our top live show of 2011, Middle of the Map Fest announces a triumphant return in 2012.

The local festival will be landing in Kansas City again April 5-7, which means there will be an additional day of music.

The first 250 tickets will be sold for last year’s prices, which (as we recall) wasn’t too pricey to begin with. No word on who’s set to play, but the first round of bands will be announced in mid-January.

Organizers have a lot to live up to. It will be hard to match the magic that brought performers like Daniel Johnston and Capybara together.

But adding an extra day to the festival adds a bit of intrigue. No doubt the event, which features dozens of local and emerging bands, will introduce us to some new favorites. So now we play the waiting game.
