Wednesday is a big day for local wonders Hospital Ships. The band is skyrocketing to fame, and on the way they stopped by Austin City Limits for a taping. They’re performing as part of ACL’s Satellite Sets, a web music series.

Frontman Jordan Geiger packed up a handful of musicians from other Lawrence bands (including Mitch Jones and Nicholas Stahl of Elevator Action, Taylor Holenbeck of Colony Collapse, and Katlyn Conroy of Cowboy Indian Bear) and headed down to Austin for the taping.

I talked to Conroy about the trip so far, and she said the band’s been having a grand old time in Austin. “We are playing in the original Austin City Limits stage and its beautiful,” said Conroy. “So full of history! There are photos of Cat Power, My Morning Jacket, Bob Dylan and many others all around.” She noted that when they got to the studio, their dressing room was stocked full of goodies (and free beer) for the band. “Everyone is so nice and we are incredibly lucky to have this opportunity,” said Conroy.

Hospital Ships sends some love our way while waiting backstage at Austin City Limits

The band was gracious enough to think about us while waiting to perform, and sent us a nice little photo from backstage.

They’re headed home on Thursday, but they’re not slowing down. You can catch them at Spring into Summer fest on Saturday, which will surely be one of the top local music events of the year.

God’s speed, Hospital Ships. We anxiously await your return to Larryville!
