You’ll find yourself facing some of the best garage rock in Lawrence, gorgeous vocals, and loads of fantastic folk this weekend.

Here’s a look at what the local venues have to offer in the music scene.

Friday

The Sluts

The Sluts / Dry Bonnet / Too Femme – The Jackpot

If you’re looking for a real ass kicking to start your weekend off, look no further than the Jackpot.

The Sluts are back with frontman Ryan Wise’s signature screeches and menacing lyrics. Dry Bonnet is also a band not to miss. Come for the loud music, stay for the murderous garage rock, and enjoy the sheer volume of this show until your ears bleed.

La Guerre

The Dead  Girls / La Guerre / Jon Harrison & the Harrisonics – The Bottleneck

The Bottleneck will play host to an eclectic lineup on Friday night when La Guerre opens for The Dead Girls.

La Guerre comes courtesy of local indie rock goddess Katlyn Conroy (of Cowboy Indian Bear fame). She’ll start the night off with loads of new music that will leave you warm and fuzzy inside. Her voice can tame even the most restless of scenesters.

The Dead Girls will round out the night with a rocking set. The band does a good job at making sure folks have a good time at their show. Expect lots of head banging and plenty of smiles.

The Grisly Hand – The Replay

Hot off their latest EP release, The Girsly hand will host an exciting night of folk and upbeat music.

Their charismatic lead singer’s enthusiasm for performing is simply infectious, and you’ll fall in love with the band’s harmonizing skills. Bring your dancing shoes, because even if you don’t feel like cutting a rug, you probably will by the end of the night.

Saturday

Monzie Leo and the Big Sky

Bramble / Monzie Leo and the Big Sky – The Replay

Monzie Leo and the Big Sky’s set left such an impression on us the last time they played the Replay, we dedicated an entire post just to the set.

The wild-man-about-town fronts this eccentric band, with verses that sound like a call to action. Come for the washboard and fantastic showmanship (the video below speaks for itself), stay to feel the fire in Monzie Leo’s belly.

Those aren’t the only shows happening this weekend. Check out the full concert calendar here.
