If you’ve lived here in Lawrence for a while, you’ll remember the excitement of heading to in-store concerts at Love Garden. We used to get such a thrill climbing up those narrow stairs and seeing the owner Kelly behind the counter, slinging records, and then indulging in a local band.

On Wednesday night, us sentimental older Lawrencians got to relive those glory days when once again, we crossed the old Love Garden mosaic tiles, climbed the narrow stairs to the side of the Toy Store to see an in-store performance thanks to the fine folks at LAAND. Sweeping Promises, in promotion of their latest album You Say I Romanticize, performed on the top level of the Toy Store as an homage to Love Garden’s old location (they even had Kelly on hand slinging records like the good old days!). This is part of a tour from the band where the first half are in record stores, and the latter half are in venues. They treated fans to songs off the new record, high enthusiasm, and some well-appreciated air conditioning.

Oh, and if you’re wondering if the floor still shakes from all the happy bobbing up and down from fans, it does! Hooray!
