Brass on Mass made a triumphant return this year after its successful debut last summer. On Friday evening, the free outdoor concert featuring brass-centered bands kicked off on the street in front of The Granada. The night began with River City Brass Band’s promenade down Mass Street, this time extending from the far end of Downtown (by Free State Brewery) onward. They were followed by The Band That Saved the World and SUNU before Dead Bettys took the stage for a ska blowout. What’s impressive to note is that all three bands share some brass members. A couple even played in all three! The night also featured street vendors, The People’s Market inside The Granada, and a host of fans of the Algerian Men’s National Soccer Team in town for World Cup festivities. It was a night that showed Lawrence prioritizes live music by continuing to make it free and available to the people.
