When it comes to covers, Lawrence bands don’t mess around. I Heart Local Music hosted a Y2K indie tribute concert at the Granada on Saturday, and the locals delivered. The venue was packed as fans (with some dressed in their best Y2K attire) cheered on five local bands and two drag queens delivering their own interpretation of indie rock hits from the early 2000’s. Mickey Mouse Slaughterhouse covered The Ting Tings, Oxytoxin delivered their own sludgy version of The Hives, and Hello Biplane got the crowd worked into a frenzy with their take on Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Fever To Tell era. The Fun Guy brought out the well-loved Strokes covers, and The Sluts finished out the night with five hits from The White Stripes. Local drag performers Chay D. Boots and Kansas Campbell covered the hip-hop hits from that era.
