On Friday night, indie rock band Gladie performed at the White Schoolhouse along with support from local bands Party Helmet and Toasterbath. On tour for their new album No Need to be Lonely, Gladie’s music featured themes of vulnerability, sadness, and beauty. Songs about parents and capitalism filled the schoolhouse’s basement.
The show was hosted by LAAND, Lawrence All Ages Noise Destination, an organization dedicated to giving the Lawrence community an inclusive, safe, and open space for concerts and learning. Just as LAAND represents diversity, there was a mix of genres from Party Helmet’s bummercore to Toasterbath’s dream pop. A highlight was Party Helmet asking the audience if anyone had a skateboarding bulldog they could use for a music video.
