After a long summer of nonstop shows, the Aquabats ended their tour with a bang at the Madrid in Kansas City on Saturday night. Because they were joined by rockabillies Koffin Kats and punk rockers Mike V and the Rats, they dubbed this the “Bats, Kats, and Rats Tour.”
The merriment was overflowing as fans indulged in the night’s colorful antics. There were plenty of inflatable pool toys flying around in the air all night thanks to the band’s big hits like “Shark Fighter” and the ever popular “Pool Party!” in the encore. Extra brownie points for the tour sectioning off a kid mosh pit for the littles. If you’re a fan of punk rock royalty, seeing professional skateboarder and former Black Flag vocalist Mike Vallely was a real treat at the start of the show, and having NoFX’s El Hefe joining the Aquabats for the final week of the tour was an added bonus. The night was heaven-on-Earth for children before they headed back to school, with one even surfing on an inflatable pizza during “Pizza Day!”
