On Saturday night, local label (and talent goldmine) Whatever Forever celebrated the release of their compilation cassette with a show at Love Garden. The event was a mostly quiet affair, showcasing the more acoustic side of some of the label’s most beloved acts.

CS Luxem, Oils, Max Fields (of Plains), and the Ovaries-eez all took the stage. We were particularly fond of Max’s acoustic folk stylings. Max, a generally fantastic guitar player who remains quite active with Dean Monkey and the Dropouts, has a certain dry wit and humor that draws people to him. We may have been in a record store, but it felt like an old country saloon thanks to his finger picking and emotional lyrics.

Here’s a video of his performance, and you can pick up the cassette at Love Garden or download it online.
