We’re noticing an interesting trend with one of the most interesting bands in Lawrence.

Dean Monkey and the Dropouts are notorious for their unique vocal stylings and doo-wop tunes. But lately, we’ve been noticing their music taking a more soulful turn. They’ve been debuting a lot of new songs at shows this year, and most of them are actually pretty funky.

The tunes are still quite danceable, and the band is still quite fetching. The hefty lineup of musicians is known for dressing up in coordinated costumes for each show, and on Halloween night at the Replay they went with a religious theme and called themselves “Jesus and the Dropouts.”
