Friday night at The Jackpot in Larryville was a whirl of retro rock, hippie chic and joyful dancing crowds. The Empty Spaces from Kansas City eased everyone into the evening with their original blend of punk rock and oldies that set the tone for a night of stellar musicianship. The Believers of Columbia, Missouri presented a sweetly trippy set that got the crowd moving. Lawrence’s own Spirit Is The Spirit rounded out the night with their feel good antics (they instructed the crowd to tell a stranger something nice in between their songs) and their signature updated surreal folk rock. It was impossible not to bob along.
