You can hit the dance floor in a prom dress or a salsa dress this weekend. The Lawrence scene is playing host to a diverse set of shows ranging from Latin rock to rockabilly. Here’s what’s happening this Friday and Saturday.

Friday

The F Holes / E-100 – The Replay

It’s about time you started your weekend off with a good old rockabilly show. The F Holes will be bringing their punky hillbilly rock to Lawrence. Expect an upright bass and loads of PBR from these bad boys.

Here’s a clip we found on the internet! (Check out the sweet sax solo at about 1:08 in)

Saturday

Making Movies

Strange Arrangement / Making Movies / The Atlantic – The Bottleneck

If you’re looking to get your funk on and cut a rug, look no further than the Bottleneck on Saturday. Kansas City natives Making Movies will be part of a diverse and psychedelic lineup that will have you strapping on your dancing shoes.

Making Movies has a history of bringing out the Latin dancer in everyone, and don’t be surprised if even the stiffest of concert-goers will be learning to salsa by the end of the night. The band spent a lot of time on the road last year, but have recently been working on new music for an upcoming album; so chances are you’ll be treated to new songs on Saturday night.

Go see Making Movies because they put on one hell of a show. They’ll be joined by Kansas City indie-rockers The Atlantic and the ever jam-tastic Strange Arrangement.

The Kinetiks

Winter Formal with: The Kinetiks / Universe Contest / DJ Darren Keen – The Replay

It’s no secret that The Kinetiks have a love for flair. They enjoy performing in coordinated costumes, and on Saturday they’ll be bringing a little sparkle to the Replay with their annual winter formal.

Hot off the release of their latest EP, Physical Education Extended Play, they’ll come loaded with new songs and tricks to please the crowds. Come for the 80’s prom dresses, stay for the new wave rock.
