    but…
i heart cowboy indian bear. they put so much heart into their music and they are so ernest with what they do. i have never met a band that is more warm and approachable. they are wonderful people. they are beautiful spirits. they harmonize like angels.

they are just mother fucking ballers.
    i heart them.

i wish i could win these pictures!

I love Hearts Of Darkness. They are one if the most versatile local bands. They constantly work their butts off to not only make a name for them selves but to make sure that any show you attend is memorable. Most recently they won the privilege of performing at Kanrocksas. It would make me so proud to see them perform, not only because they are the best band, but because I can say I consider them friends

My favourite band from Lawrence is Esoteric.

I heart them because of the way they play with words in their lyrics–for instance, “Just keep awake and keep your distance”. Their name alone, actually, delights me–what acknowledgement of such a specific and arrogant word… especially a word that fulfils its own definition.

I newly heart O, Giant Man. Caught ’em for the first time a month ago and was blown away.

  • Matt, August 1, 2011 @ 9:37 am

Split Lip Rayfield. Not necessarily a Lawrence band, but they’re close enough. Some of the best times I’ve ever had were at Split Lip shows.

  • Sarina Geist, August 1, 2011 @ 9:39 am

I heart be/non because they don’t play a lot, so when they do it’s a huge treat. Every song is different and amazing in its own way and it doesn’t hurt that the band is full of awesome dudes who love their fans.

I have to say that Hospital Ships has taken over my fav local band spot (sorry HOD). I am a sucker for the male falsetto and anything that sounds remotely like the Flaming Lips, and HS happens to do both! Great live show, excellent song writing, and beautiful melodies. What more could one ask for?

Soooo many Lawrence bands I love but I would have to say my all time favorite is Mouthbreathers. Seeing them rock out at the replay this weekend was amazing. Not to mention all the boys are so down to earth and awesome. And by down to earth I mean they like taking shots of whiskey and love Taco Tuesdays….

  • Charlene, August 1, 2011 @ 10:28 am

I heart the Brody Buster Band because that boy can blow

  • Ashley, August 1, 2011 @ 10:46 am

I love Quiet Corral because the variety of sound in all of their songs, and when you see them live they give off the best, most positive vibes!

  • Val, August 1, 2011 @ 10:54 am

Although i’ve only seen these guys a couple times, I love the L5- they are from Wichita but are in Lawrence all the time. They groove out on stage like no other and always get the crowd goin’!

  • Jamie Vermillion, August 1, 2011 @ 10:58 am

I LOVE Split Lip Rayfield. I have seen them around 30 times over the years, and every time, they have melted my face off. From the “stitchgiver” (the gas tank bass) to Wayne’s lightning fast mandolin pickin’, to Eric’s ballsy banjo playin, they are truly great musicians! (they are also fine individuals if you ever get a chance to talk to ’em)

  • Katie, August 1, 2011 @ 12:21 pm

My favorite Kansas City band is Honest Cowboy because I’ve met them through people who go to school with some of the band members – they’re super nice, and I love their music.

  • Bobbie, August 1, 2011 @ 1:12 pm

I am new to the area looking forward to checking out the Bands.

  • Derek, August 1, 2011 @ 1:28 pm

My favorite local band is The Sex Police!!! The combo of horns w/the old Gadjits kids makes for a fun dance party all night loooonnnggg!!!! Hope I win!!! Thank you!

  • Amanda, August 1, 2011 @ 1:57 pm

Hearts of Darkness! They make it IMPOSSIBLE not to dance!

  • Alex Elson, August 1, 2011 @ 5:07 pm

Kyle Elliot and Voodoo Soul are just quacktastic. They bring the blues to match the BBQ in KC. I saw them on a whim at a small dive bar with a bunch of dudes drinking whiskey and smoking cigarettes, and their gritty blues matched the atmosphere. Passionate, soulful music.

  • Ian, August 1, 2011 @ 5:10 pm

I can’t pretend to know very much about them, but I remember first seeing Capybara at Middle of the Map Fest last April and being completely blown away. I only attended their set out of apathy for any other band playing at the time, but it might have ended up being my favorite set of the night. I can’t believe we have such a vibrant, competent band all to ourselves in KC – hopefully they’ll catch the national attention they deserve soon!

  • Jill, August 1, 2011 @ 6:46 pm

Hearts of Darkness! They’re music is so unique, funky, soulful, and fun. They are a fantastic live band and GREAT to dance to!

  • Joey, August 1, 2011 @ 6:54 pm

I heart Head Change . . . because they actually put the Rock in KanROCKsas.

  • Richard, August 1, 2011 @ 8:37 pm

There has never been a more twee band in Larryville than the Transmittens, who lived in their own private world of “sparklemittens” and “cow clouds,” and rarely played live, because they were too shy.

  • Patrick Mushrush, August 1, 2011 @ 10:57 pm

  • Matthew Kneidel, August 2, 2011 @ 12:00 am

Recently have been really diggin’ the Blue Bootheelers and the Fall Down Drunks. Rex Hobart and the Misery Boys slay me with their Infinite Sadness. Old schoolers still kickin’ it would have to be the Lonesome Houndogs although the gigs are rare! I hearts me some local live music!

  • jessica imm, August 2, 2011 @ 12:08 am

my favorite local band is seed love. Their music is so good and so chill. The first time I saw them I got their cd at the show and its really good reggae music. The shows are always chill fun people and its nice that there is a band so good so close to home. The pitch did a big story about them and I have to agree with them that they are a band to watch out for!

  • Megan, August 2, 2011 @ 2:15 am

Spirit is the Spirit. I have grown up with many of these guys and gotten the privilege of hearing their various bands and sounds change and progress over the years. “We Were Only Lookin’ At The Moon” is an amazing song, definitely my favorite of theirs, but their entire Mother Mountain album is fantastic. 🙂

  • Arielle, August 2, 2011 @ 1:13 pm

My favorite local band is Cowboy Indian Bear, they are amazing at what they do. They have a very special gift and talent 🙂

    They get me rockin’.

  • Stephanie, August 2, 2011 @ 11:31 pm

My favorite local band is Beautiful Bodies. They get me dancing
(Plus my 21st birthday is August 5, so what better way to Celebrate, than Kanrocksas?)

  • Ryan, August 3, 2011 @ 6:11 pm

I would say Tech N9ne is my favorite local KC artist. I love him because he has shown anything is possible and you can make it yourself with enough hard work and dedication. You don’t need major corporations to get your message across. I also love his sincerity in his music. It has helped my life so much, I can relate to his music. It Isn’t materialistic and watered down like most popular music. It’s real straight from the soul.

Thanks for listening. Hope I have a chance still 🙂
