On Wednesday night, I was pretty surprised (but not really) to walk down to the basement of the Taproom to find a packed house.  It was local singer/songwriter Blakey Bear’s last show in Lawrence before he skips town.

The first time I met the precious songwriter, he was very quiet, mild mannered and polite. So imagine my surprise when I heard him belt out all sorts of beautiful music, wretched with emotion.  He doesn’t need much. It’s usually just him and a guitar or a keyboard. But my goodness, his music is simply captivating.

Blakey Bear is an alluring performer that nobody should miss. But he’s headed to another continent now, so it broke my heart a little to hear him sing on Wednesday night. I know I’m going to miss this.

Fare thee well, Blakey Bear.
